Do you ever feel nerdy because you really, really like something that sounds boring to others?

When I decided I wanted to start my own business I mulled around a few ideas.  Doggie daycare came to mind and I had ideas about doggie playdates, doggie sleepovers and my own little Rexy (yep, that’s him above) by my side at work every day.  But, that was not my passion so I went back to the drawing board.

I will spare you my other business ideas that didn’t make the cut and fast forward a few months to when I thought of something strange.  I started wondering if I should just do something I already love doing everyday.  Nah…..that seemed too easy.  Could it really be that easy to finalize my business idea?

People told me that I should try other jobs during my career and not be stuck in the same one.  I didn’t listen, and I have been a corporate recruiter for many years and still am.  Many years means over 16 to be exact and I am one of those lucky people who can really say that I love going to work every day.  Like, I am not kidding … I never dread getting up to go to work in the recruiting world.  I work with a great team and could honestly see myself doing this for a long time.

That is the kind of career that I want YOU to have! One that you love getting up for everyday.

That is how the idea of Brooks Interview Coaching came to life.  I have the education, training and experience to coach people on their careers and I have done it well for years.  I have reviewed a bazillion resumes and done a gazillion interviews.  I’m sure those are real numbers if you really think about it.

I have seen really great interviewers and have seen some really bad ones. Ones that you want to just hit the rewind button so you can go back and coach them… and then start all over. My career satisfaction comes from seeing someone transform from a bad interviewer to a good one and get the job they want.  When I see that, I know why I have stayed in the same career so long.

I still have people coming up to me years later to thank me for helping them get into the career of their dreams.  It gives me warm fuzzies…. every...single…time!

On a more serious note, when I interview someone, they are there because I really feel they have potential to be great in the position. They just need to show they put in the work to prepare and then sell themselves as the best candidate. That can be tough when interviewing is not their strength. It really tugs on my recruiter heart strings when someone thinks they are not good enough to apply for a job or when someone is just so nervous they can’t get out how great they would be in the position.  I am the kind of person who will stop the formalities and just talk with the person until they get a bit more comfortable to continue.  We are friends now?  Great!  Let’s keep going.

Everyone has something great to offer and helping people get the career and life they want is why I do what I do.  My number one motto that I live by is that “Your life is what you make it”.  Isn’t that so true?  If you want something you can either find a way to do it or find an excuse not to do it.  If you do it, that is so great, and you are on your way to reaching your goals.  If you don’t, then it is up to you to find the motivation or be content staying where you are.  I’m here when you need my support and coaching.

Keep reading my blogs and social media because that is where I share real-life, down to earth tips and advice from my 16 plus years of recruiting.  Mastering interviewing can become a reality once you learn the techniques and put them to use.  Being confident when you walk into an interview is possible when you put in the work. I hope we can work together one on one in the future.  When we do, you will feel my passion and energy come through because, darn it, I want you to succeed!

All the best!

Michelle
