3 Reasons Why Your LinkedIn Profile is More Important Than Your Resume
I am not saying that your resume is not important. It most definitely is! However, your resume is only important when you are shortlisted.
With competition for employees in almost every industry, employers are looking for referrals and reaching out to passive candidates to see if you are looking for a new career.
How are they going to find you … to see if you would be a good fit?
🖥️ They search for you online …and your LinkedIn profile is the most popular search result!
Go ahead … google yourself, if you have a profile, to see what shows up!
I describe LinkedIn as:
A professional, business account (similar to Facebook but with a business purpose)
Your resume
Your business card
All built into one page!
So … why is LinkedIn more important when everyone says a great resume is most important?
Recruiters will see many resumes and, yes, yours does need to stand out. I have had many successes teaching people how to stand out with your resume. However, your application needs to stand out, in a sea of applicants, before they even look at it.
This is where LinkedIn comes in.
When I was a recruiter, I would sometimes look at hundreds of resume for call centre sales positions. The candidates who also interacted with me on LinkedIn went to the top of the shortlist.
Why? This was because I already knew something about them by networking on LinkedIn. I was able to review their LinkedIn profile and see more about who they are and what they value. I was able to get insight into their personality and personal brand to see if it matched the company.
